Summary: Quite the picture.
“Wow, Usopp, you’re amazing!” Chopper squealed from where he sat on Usopp’s shoulders. “It looks just like him!”
“Yes, you have a natural talent for this,” Robin agreed with a warm smile. “To create such a startling likeness from our descriptions, and in such a dynamic pose as well, is quite impressive.”
Usopp flushed happily, a wide grin pulling at his lips as he scratched the back of his neck. “Well, the great Captain Usopp practiced his craft by drawing portraits of the finest women on the ocean. They flocked from miles around to pose for him,” he crowed triumphantly.
“Zoro!” Chopper called happily. “Zoro, you have to come see!”
Zoro, from where he’d been sprawled across the grassy deck of the Thousand Sunny, cracked one eye open. Chopper’s was one of the few voices that could instantly rouse him from sleep, and he let his instincts stretch out, testing for danger.
Finding none, he yawned widely and rolled to his feet. “What is it?” he grumbled.
“Usopp drew a picture of your zombie!” Chopper cried, clinging to Usopp’s hair and practically bouncing up and down in his excitement. “It’s awesome, you have to see!”
Zoro frowned, feeling a pang of curiosity, and moved closer as Usopp held up the picture for him to see with a suddenly shaky hand.
Zoro didn’t say anything.
Usopp didn’t say anything.
Robin didn’t say anything.
Chopper beamed with delight.
“What the fuck is that?” roared a voice directly behind Zoro, and he could suddenly feel a headache coming on.
Sanji reached over, snatching the paper from Usopp’s hands, a huge grin on his face as he examined it more closely, before he began laughing hard enough it had to be hurting his ribs.
Zoro frowned and folded his arms. Usopp glanced at him sideways. Robin smiled to herself and settled back to watch.
“Isn’t it great?” Chopper exclaimed, apparently oblivious to the rising tension. “That’s what Zoro’s zombie looks like!”
Sanji fell to the ground in fits of hysterics.
Zoro looked away, scowling and tapping his foot against the floor and trying to pretend he wasn’t blushing.
“Didn’t you draw a picture of Sanji’s zombie as well, artist-san?” Robin said politely, and Usopp flinched and nodded stiffly.
“Oh yeah, show him, Usopp!” Chopper cheered.
Sanji picked himself up, still shaking slightly with laughter. “Yeah, show me,” he grinned. “It can’t be any worse than his. At least mine probably doesn’t have his ass hanging out!” He waved the picture in Zoro’s face again, as if he could have missed that particular detail.
Usopp handed Sanji a second piece of paper silently, before taking a long step backwards.
Sanji promptly shut up.
Later that night a feeling of serenity had taken over the Sunny. Robin was in an exceptional mood, and things were much quieter, between Usopp hiding himself away from Sanji’s foul mood, which wasn’t helped by Chopper’s insistence on showing everyone the pictures over and over while beaming with pride at Usopp’s skill, and Zoro trying to avoid Nami since her blackmail senses were obviously tingling.
Sanji looked up from where he’d been seething to himself to glare as Zoro stepped into the crow's nest.
“What do you want, zombie ass?” he spat, pulling his knees up to his chest.
Zoro just shrugged, taking a step closer, and the night air was so calm and quiet that Sanji forgot to bristle when Zoro leaned in closer.
Zoro’s lips were warm and sure and maybe a bit softer than usual, and Sanji tilted his head back to allow the kiss before he remembered he was supposed to be pissed.
Zoro moved back, and Sanji frowned and glanced away. “What was that for?” he asked, although there was more petulance in his voice than genuine anger.
Zoro just shrugged again, face carefully blank, and Sanji sighed and uncoiled slightly, legs stretching out in front of him and tension leaving his shoulders.
There was a long pause, where Sanji breathed a little easier than he had since Usopp had first handed him the picture, and he waited for Zoro to continue.
Only Zoro’s hand suddenly landed on his head, ruffling his hair slightly and patting at him affectionately.
Sanji stared up at him with wide shocked eyes, caught so off-guard that he forgot to scowl.
“Good penguin-dog,” Zoro said, smirking wide and tone impossibly patronising.
The next day, Franky set about repairing the crow's nest.

Date: 12/10/2008 18:04 (UTC)I've been wondering what Zoro and Sanji's reactions would be to their
super lamezombies. Thanks you for answering that question. And also, hoorah for zombie ass.no subject
Date: 13/10/2008 14:23 (UTC)Also, I still think Zoro should adopt that zombie's clothing as his new standard outfit. Yes, yes. *nods sagely*

Date: 13/10/2008 19:32 (UTC)Zoro's zombie is way cooler than Sanji's. Sure he's fashion-impaired but at least he's kind of human and not some half dog half penguin monstrosity. Plus, who doesn't love his manly skirt thing? Seriously, if I ever saw that on the street I would jump his bones.

Lets all go and kiss it, then pat Sanji in apology for touching what is his.
Or maybe what is pen-dogs.

And Robin seemed to be having a lot of fun watching it unfold XD
Also, why, Chopper, WHY are you so cute??
Thanks for making my day, girl.
