Summary: Usopp and Chopper have the 'Talk'. Luffy helps. To an extent.
Obligation was the word that drifted to mind. Except that wasn’t strictly true, because he didn’t feel like he had to lean over and whisper those words into Chopper’s twitching ear. Pity was the wrong word too, because Usopp didn’t pity Chopper, had never pitied him over anything. Maybe it was sympathy, empathy, maybe it was because he felt just as lost as he knew Chopper was.
Because Nami had been drunk, turning the air blue with her language, and Robin could curl a man’s hair with some of her anecdotes. And somebody, Usopp couldn’t even remember who, had made the mistake of questioning Sanji’s much-lauded ‘experience’, and his loud protests and own colourful stories of past conquests had led to Zoro snorting and rolling his eyes. Which, in turn, had led to Sanji making a few jabs of his own about Zoro’s interests only extending to swords, which had led to a few proud declarations from Zoro himself.
Then they’d all just been a group of teenagers, arguing over who’d had the most interesting and expansive sex life, the entire conversation expertly steered and nurtured by a woman old enough to know better, and Luffy had been laughing non-stop, and everyone had mostly been ignoring Usopp’s own stories about deflowering the entire island of Really Really Hot Women.
And Chopper had been shifting in his seat, blushing under all that fur and looking extremely uncomfortable.
So, whatever the reason, Usopp had discreetly leant over, one hand squeezing the reindeer’s shoulder, and murmured, “Don’t worry, we’ll talk about it tomorrow.”
Okay, maybe he didn’t know exactly what they’d talk about tomorrow. Maybe he’d been drunk, and not really thinking the whole thing through particularly carefully. But Chopper had noticeably relaxed and offered him a relieved smile, and Usopp had thought everything would be okay.
He really hadn’t thought that Chopper would shuffle up to him the next day, hooves tugging his hat low over his averted eyes, and mutter that he was ready to ‘Talk’.
Luffy, who’d seemingly been asleep on the Merry’s figurehead, suddenly slid down beside them, not a trace of grogginess in his eyes, and asked what they were going to talk about.
Usopp could have mused that maybe their Captain had sensed the aura of worry around their doctor, had heard the slight waver in his voice, and was simply making sure everything was okay with his nakama. Except, in that moment, all Usopp could think of was how the whole thing felt like an ambush.
Chopper looked so expectant, and Luffy had that carefully blank expression that meant he was ready to listen, and, really, Usopp couldn’t turn them away.
Sanji was in the kitchen and Robin was with him, enjoying her coffee out of the afternoon’s unrelenting sun. The steady swing of metal through the air meant that Zoro was still about halfway through his set, so he’d be unlikely to disturb them for nearly an hour. However, Nami’s deckchair was only a few feet away and even if she looked like she was deeply absorbed in her newspaper, Usopp knew better than to believe she wasn’t eavesdropping.
Usopp pulled himself to his feet and, with a solemn nod, indicated for Chopper to follow him. The slap of sandals that mingled with the gentle clop of hooves told him that Luffy was apparently joining them.
The boy’s bunkroom was sheltered and quiet but Usopp still found himself crossing over to the furthest corner and settling down on the floor, knees drawn up to his chest and eyes darting. Luffy flopped down beside him, smiling curiously, leaning back on his hands and clacking his feet together. Chopper, on the other hand, remained standing, shifting from one foot to the other.
“W-well, you see,” Usopp stammered, completely lost as to where he should start. “The thing is…”
He knew he was blushing, hands fisting at his thighs, and he glanced at Chopper’s face, only to feel his heart sink. His younger nakama was looking just as unhappy as he had the night before, and Usopp realised he was doing a really crappy job of being supportive.
He raised his head, trying to look confident and unabashed, trying for a reassuring smile. “The thing is, everyone’s different. Everyone goes at their own pace. You heard the others last night, they’ve all had different experiences, all at different stages in their lives.” Usopp was proud of the way his voice didn’t shake, and Chopper had stopped fidgeting and looked like he was contemplating Usopp’s words.
“Yeah, that’s right,” Luffy chimed in, mimicking Usopp’s authoritative tone. Then he turned to Usopp, hand cupped around his mouth, and hissed, “What are we talking about?”
Usopp rolled his eyes, but Chopper answered the question for him. “Sex,” the tiny reindeer said simply, and Usopp had a feeling he was studying Luffy’s reaction very carefully.
Luffy looked at Chopper blankly, then turned back to Usopp. “Okay,” he said with a cheery grin, apparently completely unsurprised by the topic.
Luffy’s nonplussed reaction seemed to help Chopper’s confidence. He nodded, an air of authority growing around him. “I know about sexual maturity,” he announced, drawing himself taller, fur fluffing up, before he smiled a little sheepishly, wilting slightly. “I just want to know more about, umm, the sex part of it.”
“Oh, right,” Usopp responded, still struggling to not sound uneasy. “Well, when a man and a woman love each other very much…” he began.
“Or a Captain and a First Mate,” Luffy interrupted, head tilted to one side and still smiling in interest.
Usopp realised that his mouth was hanging open. “W-what?” he stuttered incredulously.
“When a Captain and a First Mate love each other very much,” Luffy said, sounding like he was reciting a nursery rhyme. “Then they have sex.”
“Wait, what?” Usopp blurted out. “You mean you and -”
At that moment Chopper’s ears twitched in warning, and he suddenly swelled into Heavy Point in surprise as the hatch to the boy’s bunkroom swung open and Zoro’s head appeared, his expression faintly annoyed.
“Oi, Nami wants to know what you lot are up to,” he grunted, looking at them all with suspicion.
Usopp gaped, gaze flying between Luffy and Zoro, then back to Chopper, who was starting to look embarrassed again. “W-why doesn’t she ask herself?” he replied before he could say anything he might regret.
Zoro frowned at that, before disappearing again, grumbling to himself and slamming the hatch shut.
“Please don’t tell me you and Zoro do … that,” Usopp hissed at Luffy instantly, eyes darting back to the closed hatch.
Luffy tilted his head in confusion. “Do what?”
“You’re the Captain, he’s kind of the First Mate,” Usopp muttered, rolling his hand in front of him and hoping Luffy would catch on to his train of thought, but Luffy only looked politely baffled as he watched Usopp’s fingers.
“Do you have sex?” Chopper cut in, looking genuinely intrigued despite his blushing.
“No!” Luffy laughed uproariously, rocking slightly where he sat. Usopp rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, waiting for Luffy to quieten down. He watched as Luffy caught his breath, still beaming, fingers idly tracing the brim of his hat. “That’s not who I was thinking of.”
“Well, whatever,” Usopp grumbled, feeling a little exasperated. “Getting back to the point. When a man and a woman, or a Captain and a First Mate, love each other very much…”
“So a man and a man can love each very much then?” Chopper mumbled.
“Yes, or a woman and a woman can love each other very much,” Usopp nodded. “Basically, when one being loves another being very much, they decide to be together physically. That is, they, uh, have sex.”
“They have sex,” Luffy echoed cheerfully, clearly doing his best to help.
Usopp kind of hoped that would be the end of it, but Chopper was still looking at him expectantly.
It suddenly felt very warm in the bunkroom.
“Well, when they have sex,” Usopp forced himself to continue. “The man takes his … Umm … He inserts into the woman’s … The thing is, they ….”
To his surprise, Chopper smiled wryly and shook his head. “I know how sex works,” he explained patiently. “I am a doctor, I’m well studied in anatomy.”
Usopp heaved a sigh of relief, nodding in understanding and hoping that he might be allowed to escape and spend the rest of the day avoiding everyone in peace while he tried to recover from his mortification, when he noticed Chopper was fidgeting again.
“I guess I just wanted to know,” Chopper whispered, staring pointedly at the floor before his eyes looked up to meet Usopp’s gaze, and they looked brighter than Usopp had ever seen them. “What it feels like.”
It probably wouldn’t help matters if he ran screaming from the room and threw himself over the railings to the ocean below, would it?
“It, uh, well, it…” Usopp spluttered, before he caught himself. Chopper was reaching out to him, asking him for help. They were nakama, and it wasn’t often that somebody leant on him so heavily for something. And Luffy had followed them, which meant it had to be important, because Luffy was their Captain, after all.
Usopp cleared his throat, resigned himself, and held his head high.
“It feels good,” he intoned, and Chopper nodded a little. “Like if you, uh, if you do it yourself. Only better. Like, if you can imagine someone else’s … Someone else’s hand on you. If you imagine that.”
Luffy was still staring at him levelly, smiling to himself, but Chopper appeared to be frowning, like he was either trying very hard to imagine someone else’s hand on him, or trying very hard not to imagine it at all.
“It’s good, I guess, because it’s out of your control,” Usopp continued, and his voice sounded a little thick and distant to his own ears. He couldn’t help the picture that was starting to form in his own mind, long pale fingers, slender and delicate, moving over him, petting at his stomach and his thighs, and he swallowed and ducked his head a little. “You don’t know what’s coming next. So it’s a surprise.”
Chopper made a small thoughtful sound, and shifted a little.
“The other person’s personality would be there in the way they move. That’s what makes it so intimate,” Usopp said, and the image in his mind swirled at little, changed, the skin of that questing hand growing darker. Fingers growing broader, palm growing wider, and the explorations were still slow and curious, but the hand belonged to a strong arm, to a stronger body. And Usopp could feel how soft that skin was, downy and light, only it wasn’t like skin, it was fluffier and it was the most incredible tease, and it was filling Usopp’s mind, the texture of it moving over sensitive skin.
“Usopp?” Luffy said, and Usopp hadn’t even been aware he’d stopped talking.
“Uh, yeah, so it would feel good. And stuff,” Usopp babbled a little too loudly, suddenly all too aware of the deafening silence around them, and the way he was breathing far too shallowly. “And you can both bring your different experience to it. Experiment together, that sort of thing.”
And there was another hand in his mind, two more hands, with sun-kissed skin, that moved almost clumsily over him. But that wasn’t right, they weren’t clumsy, they were reckless, reckless and sure, and they felt like they were everywhere at once, like they could touch him everywhere, like they could stretch around him forever, fingers moving over him in familiar spots and new places, and Usopp was panting a little and staring unwavering at the ground.
“And you can choose the pace, it’s up to you, can do whatever makes you comfortable. You don’t have to go all the way until you’re ready.”
Only, in his mind, that was exactly what he was doing, pushing inside, feeling that heat, feeling it give around him. And, oh God, stretching and giving to the pressure of somebody pushing against him, into him, sensation all around and within him, burning in every way, soaring with it. And Usopp’s hands were clenching and unclenching over his knees, and Chopper was making a soft little noise beside him, and he could feel Luffy staring at him, even if he couldn’t bring himself to look up, and Usopp was about to do something he was sure he was going to regret…
And then the hatch to the bunkroom swung open again, slamming against the deck, and Usopp’s heart leapt into his throat and tried to choke him.
Zoro’s scowling face appeared again. “She still wants to know what you’re doing?” he growled. There was a noise from somewhere behind him, and he turned to roar over his shoulder. “I’m asking them!”
“Nothing!” Usopp snapped, and he was surprised by how angry he sounded, although not surprised at the way he was panting around the word.
“Whatever,” Zoro grumbled, not looking at him but glowering behind him, and disappeared again, hatch shutting forcefully behind him.
Usopp sighed, running a shaky hand through his hair, feeling the tension in the room slowly evaporating around them, and he was relieved and put out at the same time, although he was pretty sure he was supposed to be mostly relieved.
“So,” Luffy shrugged when Usopp failed to do anything but stare moodily at the floor. “Are we doing this or not?”
Usopp’s head snapped up just in time to see Luffy’s sharp grin, and then one stretching arm was wrapping around Chopper’s shoulders and pulling him closer, and the other was reaching for Usopp’s lap.

I wanted to write something for my 50_smutlets claim with Chopper, because I didn't want him to be too left out, but at the same time it's Chopper, so it was a bloody difficult balance to work with. I want to poke Usopp on the cheek and scruffle his fuzzy hair. Wow, that just sounded really dirty. Cheek as in on face, hair as in the one on your head. Just to make it clear. Head! I meant above... oh never mind.
