Title: Witness
Fandom: One Piece
Pairing: Nami/Vivi
Rating: PG-13
Words: 542
Timeline: Pre-Alabasta
Notes: For
10lilies, prompt "a long road".
Summary: Shaking apart in her arms.
Vivi’s eyes shine brightly with unshed tears, her teeth clenched around the sobs that threaten to undo her. Her hair fans out around her, waves of blue that fail to obscure the newsprint words spread out across the floor.
The headlines scream of death and civil war and a royal family falling and taking their country with them, and Nami had thought she’d hidden the newspapers well.
Vivi struggles and writhes beneath her, and Nami knows she is lashing out because she has nobody else she can turn to, nobody else who can understand the pain and hatred that boils within her. Nami remembers that feeling of loneliness all too well, the weight of carrying the lives of others, but she cannot imagine just how many people depend on Vivi, just how many might die if she fails.
All she can do is stay by Vivi’s side, and never let go.
Vivi’s head twists and shakes as she tries to avoid each of Nami’s kisses, and she’s making a low noise, as if she’s in pain, and Nami holds her wrists tightly and she needs Vivi to feel something other than anger at her own limitations, but she can see how lost Vivi already is.
Nami’s weight holds Vivi pinned to the floor, and she leans forward and her teeth sink into Vivi’s neck. Not hard enough to hurt, barely hard enough to mark, but Vivi makes a shocked noise, and it’s the opportunity Nami needs. One hand drops its grip on Vivi’s wrist and cups her chin instead, holds her still, and her lips press against Vivi’s own.
The kiss is hungry and desperate and an apology and a promise, and Nami knows Vivi hears everything, feels it all. Trying to break free of it, because Vivi is so scared of losing anybody else and she’s so determined to save Nami that she cannot comprehend that it is Nami who must save her. Save her from herself, from her expectations and her grief for the past and the future, from her love of her country and her willingness to die for her beliefs.
Vivi jerks her head to the side with a gasp, tears finally sliding down her cheeks, and Nami kisses at each one, follows its path across her skin, licks at the sorrow and frustration there. She kisses Vivi’s hair, her ear, her neck, everywhere she can reach, and Vivi’s hands claw at her back and arms, grab at her clothes, but she isn’t pushing Nami away. She’s pulling her closer, legs wrapping around Nami’s thighs, and she’s still trying to hold everything in but her breath is coming in sobs and she’s trembling. Letting it out, emotion that burns inside of her, slowly letting go before it can destroy her, both fragile and strong with it. Weak for the weakness of others, and Nami knows she is weak for Vivi, and that she must never let it show, because Vivi needs her strength, and Nami’s face remains an impassive mask as Vivi weeps against her.
Nami’s heart aches for her, but she’ll guard that pain fiercely, and she’ll never shed a tear, even as she watches the woman she loves cry with the pain of an entire country.

I did wonder what the reaction may be if Vivi found that Nami had been hiding the newspapers from her (when Nami wasn't on death's door that is). It was for her own good, but then again I would be angry too. Very bittersweet and emotions are wonderfully shown.

Date: 17/11/2007 08:18 (UTC)I loves me some One Piece, and the fandom won't get rid of me for a while yet. ;) Oda creates such perfectly flawed characters, and I love his women, so I don't think I'll ever get bored of writing yuri for the series. I'm so glad you enjoy the fics as much as I enjoy writing them. XD

Date: 14/09/2009 20:50 (UTC)I love the anger of this, its so strong and passionate, yet you've balanced it out with a devoted side from Nami, desperately trying to hepl the one she loves. Its so beautiful and sad at the same time! I have read many fanfics by you, and this is one of my favourites by far due to the conflicting emotions~
Also, on anoter note Could I posibly (dare I ask) attempt some fanart of this wonderful fic? Its just one of those fics that spark up so much vivid iagery its near imposible NOT to draw!~
