The academic tour is going great. Sure, Jane misses staying in one place, misses the cramped little apartment in London that she’d started thinking of as home. But she’s met some incredible people, had a whole wealth of new opportunities made available to her.

Travelling has been good for her.

Apparently Darcy is less thrilled, because Jane’s barely through the door when Darcy pounces. Kissing her back against the frame, hard and insistent, and Jane laughs, pries herself free.

“Hello to you, too,” she says, letting it sound more like a question that a statement.

“I missed you,” Darcy pouts, tugging at Jane’s skirt.

Which would make sense if they weren’t in a hotel room, if Darcy hadn’t been at her side through every stop of the tour, if Jane hadn’t been gone for only the three minutes it took her to get ice. Which is now all over the floor, thanks to Darcy’s enthusiasm.

“I had to watch you be sciencey all day, and I couldn’t touch you, and now you’re disappearing without telling me!”

Jane gives her a pointed look. “You’re the one who complains about room-temperature Coke.”

“Because it’s the devil,” Darcy huffs.

“Well, enjoy your floor-ice,” Jane teases.

“Rather enjoy you,” Darcy grumbles back, and then she’s kissing Jane again, pulling impatiently at her shirt. Half-urging, half-dragging Jane towards the bed, and Jane lets herself be pulled however Darcy wants her.

Maybe that’s why travelling has been so fun. Because it’s Darcy who’s really Jane’s home.
