It’s been a rough day in a rough month, and Claire’s just looking to forget. She doesn’t even care that this bar is stupidly overpriced, although she’s sure her wallet will care tomorrow.

The bar’s not the attraction, anyway. It’s the blonde beside her, sweet and smiling, with this aura of sadness around her that Claire can’t place and can’t look away from.

After everything that happened with Matt, she kind of hoped she’d be over this attraction to the cute broken ones. But clearly she’s still as hooked as ever, and right now she’s buzzed enough that she couldn’t talk herself out of this if she tried.

“Wanna get out of here?” Karen asks, beating Claire to the question that’s been on her lips for the past hour.

“Why, the craft beer and ten-dollar cocktails not doing it for you?” she teases, and Karen ducks her head, smiling.

Claire doesn’t know anything about her, beyond a first name and the heat she feels when Karen’s hand slides up her thigh.

“I can think of better ways to spend my evening,” Karen murmurs and, yeah, Claire can too.

The night air’s refreshingly cool after the crowds of the bar. “Did you have someplace in mind?” Claire asks.

She doesn’t miss the way Karen’s eyes dart down the street, like she’s looking for someone, or expecting someone to be looking for her. “Anywhere but here,” she says, voice a little tight behind her smile, and Claire kind of wants to ask what sort of trouble she’s in.

“Taxi!” she calls instead, taking Karen’s hand and pulling her down the street, and Claire doesn’t care what kind of mistake she might be about to make, because Karen’s laugh is worth it.

That reckless feeling has her getting a hand between Karen’s legs in the back of the taxi, fingers sliding beneath her skirt, stroking her through the fabric of her panties. Riling her up, watching the flutter of Karen’s eyelashes, the twitch in her jaw, bringing her close, and Karen moans softly in frustration when the car pulls up outside Claire’s building.

They’re barely inside her apartment when Karen drops to her knees, yanks impatiently at the fly of Claire’s jeans. Gets them down her legs and off one foot, and then Claire’s bracing her hands against the door, one thigh over Karen’s shoulder, a hot mouth against her pussy. Karen eats her out, rough and hungry, and Claire’s pretty sure she’s not the only one with something they’re trying to forget.

It takes another hour before they make it to the bed.

She wakes up alone, which is about what she expected. The post-it with a hastily scrawled phone number is a nice surprise though.

Claire knows the look of someone in trouble. She knows the look of someone who is trouble. Because Karen’s sweet, but she’s carrying some serious baggage, and Claire’s had her fill of danger.

She saves the number in her phone, all the same.
