1drabble, prompt "cold".
“Cold?” Peter asks, arms around her, hands crossed at the small of her back.
Gwen’s wrapped up tight, coat and gloves and hat and scarf, and the winter chill is still bothering her. She wonders how Peter does it sometimes, because as cold as it is with them standing still, she knows from experience how much worse it is swinging between the buildings, wind whipping around them, icy and mean.
Maybe it’s to do with his altered physiology, because even in just the spandex he’s giving off heat, and Gwen cuddles closer, buries her face in his neck.
He hisses, squirming against her. “Your nose is like ice,” he tells her when she looks up, his grin huge, teeth shining in the city light. “And very pink, by the way.”
“Well, pink is my colour,” she informs him, and he laughs, pulls her in and up, her arms around his neck and her feet not touching the ground. So strong, and Gwen feels safe like this, protected by him, never mind that they’re fifty stories up and way too close to the ledge.
“Want to find somewhere more sheltered?” he offers, and she considers it, his mask held tightly in her hand, her gloved thumb rubbing absently over the lens of one eye. The two of them, they have little safe havens and hidey holes all over New York, places he’s found, places she’s suggested. High up where only a spider can reach, snug and just for the two of them.
It’s tempting, to find some little crevice to curl up in, but Gwen doesn’t relish the idea of the trip there, not when the temperature in the air is dropping by the minute. There’ll be snow by the end of the week, she’s sure of it.
“Nah, not right now,” she says, and Peter sets her down lightly but doesn’t let go. She wouldn’t let him get far even if he did, her arms tight around him. “For now, just warm me up?”
“Definitely,” he breathes, eyes crinkling, rubbing his also pink nose against her own, and Gwen smiles, tilts her head for a kiss that heats her all the way down to her toes.
