100_men, prompt "hands".
A/N: I am not immune to the cute!
Summary: Well, nobody ever said their fairy talent was keeping secrets.
“It wasn’t really-”
“We weren’t-”
“The thing is-”
Tinker Bell just smiles at them, nodding her head in what could be interpreted as a sympathetic and understanding manner if she wasn’t obviously trying very hard not to giggle.
“What happened was, uh, we were walking,” Bobble blusters, and he hopes his goggles don’t magnify the way his eyes are darting back and forth.
“Yeah, we were walking,” Clank chimes in, nodding hard enough that he has to be hurting his neck.
“We were walking, and I tripped!” Bobble exclaims suddenly and triumphantly enough that Tinker Bell actually takes a step backwards.
“We were walking and he tripped!” Clank shouts helpfully.
“And Clank was hel-”
“I was helping him!” Clank cuts in, sounding a little too enthusiastic. “Because he fell!”
“Yes, and it hurt to walk, so, yes, I needed Clank’s help,” Bobble says hurriedly, forcing what he hopes is a confident grin onto his face.
“It hurt him to walk!” Clank cries, nodding so much now that he’s actually rising off of the floor with each jerk of his head.
Tinker Bell watches him for a moment, eyes moving up and down, before she turns to Bobble with what he recognises as a mischievous smile.
“So why didn’t you just fly?” she asks politely.
Bobble feels himself gape at her. Clank stops nodding, feet hovering just above the ground.
“Err, why didn’t you just fly?” Clank asks him, sounding hopeful that Bobble has another emergency excuse.
Unfortunately, Bobble’s mind doesn’t seem to want to do anything but buzz at him like an impossibly loud bumblebee.
Tinker Bell giggles as he slaps himself on the forehead, making the water droplets of his goggles burst and dribble to the floor.
“Don’t worry about it,” Tinker Bell insists with a conspiratorial wink. “It’s nice to see you two … getting along so well.”
Bobble smacks himself on the forehead again.
Clank grins and says, “Thank you, Miss Bell.”
After she’s flown away, hand delicately covering her wide grin, Bobble rounds on Clank.
“I told you not to hold my hand in public!” he exclaims, aware that his arms are probably flapping more than his wings, but too flustered to be able to stop every frantic gesture of his hand. “Tinker fairies are supposed to be professional! We shouldn’t mix work with our private life! Now Tinker Bell’s going to think we keep sneaking off to hold hands!”
Clank stares at him blankly for a moment. “I like holding your hand,” he says as if the thought has taken great consideration.
Bobble grits his teeth and makes a frustrated noise that he hopes distracts Clank sufficiently from the way he can feel himself blushing. The day officially can’t get any worse.
A melodic giggle from just behind him tells him differently.
“Hi, Mary Fairy,” Clank cries with a cheery wave over Bobble’s shoulder.
“Hello, you two,” Mary Fairy replies, and Bobble really doesn’t trust that amused tone to her voice.
“I think I need some fresh air,” he mutters to himself.
“Okay, let’s go then,” Clank replies and, before Bobble can respond, Clank firmly grabs his hand and drags him skyward.
When he glances back, he can see Mary Fairy watching them with the same affectionate grin Tinker Bell had worn only moments ago.
Bobble is pretty sure that he’s doomed, but he can’t bring himself to let go of Clank’s hand. He never can.
