The galley is in a state of utter chaos. There’s tinsel hanging from every available surface, cheap plastic baubles swinging from the lamp and tied to various kitchen utensils, and there’s glitter everywhere.
It looks to have started out as a valiant effort. There’s sign of a colour scheme in there somewhere, hints of elaborate design, tinsel and streamers snaking together before exploding into a mess of sparkle, as if the decorator became distracted or had his creations snatched from him by somebody with less than appealing artistically sensibilities.
There are holly berries glued to one corner of the table and dollops of glue flecked across the floor, as if a great struggle took place. There’s what was once an elaborate golden star shattered at the foot of the refrigerator, as if it fell from a great height. There are messy scrawls of silver paint across the cabinets, as if they were intended to be snowflakes but were drawn by a child.
In the centre of the chaos lies Usopp and Luffy, covered head to toe in sparkle, snoring lightly in an exhausted heap. Luffy is lying across Usopp, smiling and looking triumphant, even in sleep. Usopp is frowning and muttering to himself, lips pressed against Luffy’s cheek.
Nami sighs and rolls her eyes and slips away to fetch her camera.
