10lilies, prompt "loyalty".
Summary: There was no denying the party spirit.
Everyone was singing and dancing and drinking far more than necessary, and Vivi tried to smile along with them, tried to allow herself to relax. The newest crew member of the Straw Hats was wide-eyed and grinning, and looking a little lost in the celebration. Looking as if he’d never witnessed such broad merriment, and Vivi had admit the sight of the overwhelmed reindeer brought a smile to her own face.
Yet she couldn’t help but dwell on what might have been, the hidden threat that remained a constant shadow over the party stretched out before her. Everyone else seemed so caught up in their happiness, yet all Vivi could think of when she watched them was their dedication and their loyalty to her cause, and the fact that they were willing to risk everything for her dreams.
Nami had been so close to death, and there was no doubt in Vivi’s mind that she wouldn’t have pushed herself to such a point if the rush to reach Alabasta hadn’t been at the forefront of her mind.
Nami had put her own health on the line, and Vivi knew that she should be grateful, that she shouldn’t squander such a gesture.
Except she felt sick to her stomach every time she thought of that deathly flush on Nami’s face, that weak smile attempting to reassure her through the pain. Vivi had vowed to give everything she had to her country, even if it meant her life was forfeit, but how could she so knowingly risk the lives of those she had encountered purely by chance, those who had taken her in and accepted her as their own so easily?
They should have allowed Nami to rest longer, they should have allowed both Luffy and Sanji longer to recover, and Vivi couldn’t shake the image of desert sand awash with the blood of her people, but she couldn’t allow her friends to hurt themselves, to torture themselves for her benefit. Her chest ached, anger and pain and sorrow and helplessness bubbling in her throat, and it felt as if she couldn’t swallow, as if she couldn’t breathe…
“Princess,” a sharp voice snapped beside her, and Vivi was jolted from her own thoughts. Nami was staring at her shrewdly, hands on her hips and a wry smile on her lips.
“You’re not laughing, Vivi,” Luffy called from across the deck, chopsticks hanging from his mouth and ears.
Vivi flushed a little under the attention, uncomfortably aware of the haze of tears no doubt obvious in her eyes.
Zoro, sat nearest to her, held out a tankard, his face expressionless. “Have a drink,” he said quietly, and somehow that only made the roiling emotions trapped within her throat squeeze tighter, and she could only shake her head, miserable in the face of their hospitality and kindness.
Nami rolled her eyes, reaching across and snatching the tankard from Zoro’s grip, earning herself a completely ignored glare from him. “Have a drink,” she reiterated, before tilting her head back and taking a long sip of the alcohol within, and Vivi had only a moment to frown in confusion before Nami’s hands were either side of her face, dragging her forward, and then Nami’s lips were pressing against her own.
Vivi gasped under the attention, eyes flying wide, but all she could see up so close was the flame of Nami’s hair and the flicker and curl of her eyelashes as Nami’s eyes closed and she opened her lips against Vivi’s own. The first droplet of the bittersweet drink slipped free, silently rolling down Vivi’s chin, and instinct had her opening her mouth to the rest of the liquid. It was warm, Nami’s heat translating through it, and there was the slight tang of cinnamon and citrus, a strange but not unpleasant combination, before it burned its way down her throat, and for a moment Vivi imagined that, underneath it all, she could taste the sweetness of Nami’s lips and essence.
When Nami stepped backwards, a glint in her eye that Vivi was certain only she could see, it was as if the world certainly burst back into life, although she hadn’t been aware it had been muffled. Sanji was making a strange choking sound, Luffy was laughing and waving even more chopsticks around, and Chopper looked even more confused than before but was still trying to imitate Usopp’s catcalls.
And Vivi knew she was blushing, and Nami was grinning, and Vivi pointedly reached forward and took the tankard from Nami’s hand, flopping down on the floor and trying not to look too mortified or aroused, her previous thoughts completely forgotten, while Zoro rolled his eyes and hid his smirk behind his drink.

*cough*
Well, this was FUN. Leave it to the navigator to cheer up the overly thoughtful princess :D
Sweet one, my friend.

Angsty Vivi is fabulous once again. Good on you Nami for trying to snap her out of it for a moment. Vivi has a pretty smile after all.

I really like how Nami and Vivi are showing affection in public. It's different from your usual NaVi, but pulled off just as masterfully. I really admire writers that can take more than one spin on a pairing.
I've probably told you this several times, but the way you write Vivi is incredible. A lot of people in the fandom view her as "That annoying Sue" or just don't give half a shit about her existence, but you describe her so beautifully and remind me with each fic how much I adore her. I love her contrast to the rest of the Strawhat crew, how she has such a hard time letting herself relax and is ridden with guilt despite everyone else partying and having fun.
I love, love, love the way you wrote Luffy and Zoro. Their role wasn't very big in this story, but God, if that line and a half each one of them said didn't make me squee. Especially Luffy's "You're not laughing, Vivi". Cutest and Luffy-est thing ever. I can really hear him saying it in my head, and it's making my brain melt of adorable.
Oh, and by the way- but how could she so knowingly risk the lives of those she had encountered purely by chance, those who had taken her in and accepted her as their own so easily. Missed a question mark there, I believe.

I really wanted to write a fic where they're public with their relationship - I love them as fiercely and affectionately guarding their relationship, but thought that maybe I should add a little spice into the mix, so I'm glad it worked. And it was fun to write a bit more interaction between Vivi and the other Straw Hats even if it was only a few lines, especially with Luffy and Zoro, because Luffy is so important to everyone, and I really like the way Zoro is around Vivi, so different to how he's often shown to treat women.
It really makes me sad when Vivi gets dismissed and/or ignored. The whole Mary Sue thing is especially frustrating. I just can't dislike anyone Oda creates, even the most vile of villains, which is why One Piece remains my favourite manga and anime. And Vivi suffers as much as the other Straw Hats and fights for her beliefs and perseveres and glows as much as her nakama, so I don't see why she should be singled out as somehow too false with it. Probably because she's a royalty, I guess, but I think that by the end she's as much a pirate as she is a Princess, which is just an awesome contradiction.
I already suspect my last fic will be another 'secret lovers' one, because I suck. ;) I'll still write for the pairing, of course, but freeing up the claim means somebody else can take it and write/draw some lovely NaVi. :D

I love your work. My One Piece rec page mostly has things by you on it.

Just great!
It fits them incredbly well, you can imagine every part of it quiet easily and one can guess, what this party-night might lead to ;-)
