(One Piece) Burned

Title: Burned
Fandom: One Piece
Pairing: Ace/Zoro
Rating: PG-13
Words: 1013
Timeline: Alabasta
Summary: Zoro had his suspicions about Ace, although maybe they weren't the correct suspicions.

Zoro had known he wasn’t trustworthy. Recognised the bristle of the hairs on the back of his neck, the tension shooting up his spine, the instinct to bare his teeth. His body’s way of telling him that the man in front of him was an enemy.

But Portgas D. Ace was Luffy’s older brother, and polite and friendly, and had succeeded in charming every member of the crew in a matter of moments. Zoro’s hands had fisted at his sides, itching for the hilt of his katana, and biting back the urge to lash out had tasted like anger and blood.

And blood was a taste Zoro was quickly learning to associate with Ace, the copper tang thick on his tongue, as his vision swam, dark waves rolling in front of his eyes.

It had been possible, not easy but bearable, to swallow down his hostility in the presence of his Captain and his nakama. But not so easy when Ace had sought him out, just the two of them in the storage room, and smirked in a way that could only be described as a challenge.

The scorched flesh of his knuckles throbbed angrily, but Zoro’s fist still streaked upwards, aiming for the heavy-lidded eyes, lifting his shoulders from the ground with the force of his swing. His hands felt empty without a katana, but all three had been knocked away from him with shocking ease and a curse about setting the whole ship on fire. The blades steamed lightly against the wooden floor, still white hot from the flame they’d encountered on each slice.

This time Ace didn’t flicker to flames, and that only made it worse, only proved how easy it was him to lean back and away from the blow, knees still clamped against either side of Zoro’s waist. Zoro had only a moment to notice the curious, and almost bemused, expression as Ace’s eyes followed his fist, and then a broad palm was pressing against his forehead and slamming the back of his head against the floor again.

A curse was forced from Zoro’s lips, and then Ace’s hand was moving up and back and into Zoro’s hair, fisting in it, yanking. Ace leant forward, slowly, inch by inch, resting his weight on his elbow, pulling at Zoro’s hair until his wrist was touching the floorboards and Zoro was hissing through his teeth, neck and back arched awkwardly.

“First Mate,” Ace murmured, breath washing over Zoro’s upturned chin, and his words weren’t quite a statement or a question.

Zoro growled, hand reaching up blindly to grip at Ace’s bicep, feeling the satisfying protest of bones creaking under his palm. Ace only exhaled softly, the sound almost like laughter, before his free hand clamped down over Zoro’s other arm in an equally firm grasp.

“I didn’t come here to fight,” Ace purred, lips too too close to Zoro’s neck, breath scorching.

Zoro’s eyes squeezed shut, teeth gritted, a continuous growl rumbling in his chest. Hated the feeling of manipulation, of being toyed with, throat exposed to a predator. Let it stoke at his anger. “Bullshit,” he hissed, the word grating his stretched throat like desert sand.

“Honestly,” Ace continued, and this time there was definitely laughter in his voice, before it dropped to a husky whisper. “Just wanted to be sure you were taking care of my baby brother.”

Zoro snarled and bucked up, free hand clawing at the wood underneath him, the weight above him rigid and immovable. Didn’t want to hear Ace talking about Luffy, didn’t want to hear him doubting Luffy, didn’t want to hear anything he had to say. Only wanted him gone, off the ship, out of their lives.

The flesh held in his grip sparked and rippled in warning, and then Ace’s tongue was swiping over his throat, licking away beaded sweat, tracing a stripe of sharp hot burn.

For one long moment, Zoro’s heart forgot to beat. And then a snarl was ripping its way through his body, more feral than any noise he’d ever heard a human make, and he was bucking against the weight on his stomach again, and Ace’s hand leaving his arm to grip firmly at his chin was the only thing that stopped him ripping the hair in Ace’s grip from his scalp.

“Hmm,” Ace mumbled. “Wish we had more time. This could have been interesting.” He shifted back slightly, using the grip on Zoro’s chin, sliding it down to his throat and pushing his skull more firmly against the floor, and then his knees were either side of Zoro’s hips and he was all but sitting in Zoro’s lap. And Zoro was aware that he should have stopped jerking and thrusting his hips up, but his body couldn’t quite give up the struggle, his heels skidding uselessly over the floor. And Ace made a low sound, and he sounded amused when he whispered, “Really interesting.”

Then the hand on Zoro’s neck was dragging him up, then slamming him back against the floor, and in the brief moment Zoro was blinded by the sparks dancing in front of his eyes, Ace was moving up and off of him.

“Oh well, duty, and Yuba, calls,” Ace sighed, voice barely audible over the sound of Zoro’s panting.

Zoro’s body felt heavy and laboured, in a way it usually did after the most life-threatening of battles, and it took more effort than it should have to sit up, to glare at Ace’s retreating back. His fingers again itched for his katana, mind calculating exactly how many seconds it would take to cross the floor, retrieve them and roll to standing in his favoured battle stance.

And then Ace turned back to him, sharp canines visible in the wide grin. “I’m glad you value his honour,” he said simply, some emotion in his voice that Zoro couldn’t decipher, before disappearing through the door to the main deck.

The air of battle left the room with him, and Zoro was left only with the surge of adrenaline and blisters on his hands.

It is just another reaosn for us all to hate Blackbeard, I guess. He fucks Ace up, has him running all over the Grand Line trying to fix his mess, and he keeps Ace from ravaging Zoro. The bastard! XD

Ace/Zoro really deserves more love - I think it's a secret pet pairing of most of the yaoi-loving fandom, but I don't remember seeing it before. Ace/Sanji I've seen, and Ace/Luffy, and, of course, a multitude of Smoker/Ace, but I really can't recall ever reading anything Ace/Zoro. Which is just wrong, on so many levels.
