They sit together at the highest point of the highest peak in the Moors. Side by side, and while Aurora’s face is turned towards the horizon, Maleficent cannot help but steal glances at the other woman.
Aurora’s face is soft, eyes sweeping over the skies as they begin their daily fanfare of colour, purple creeping up from the shadows of the ground to paint the clouds, giving way to pinks and oranges and ambers.
Aurora shivers lightly, a pleased smile upon her lips.
“Are you cold?” Maleficent asks, her own skin immune to the chill of the night.
Aurora turns to her, hand settling gently over Maleficent’s knee. “No, do not worry,” she answers, but still she shifts closer, pressing against Maleficent’s side. Although Maleficent may be unbothered by the cold, the heat of Aurora’s body is a welcome warmth that begins to flood through her.
She stretches out her wings, curling one around Aurora, drawing her in like a blanket, and Aurora makes a content sound, settling her head upon Maleficent’s shoulder. Her attention is pulled to the sunrise once again, and Maleficent’s attention continues to be pulled to Aurora. Feeling the steady beat of her heart, watching the quiet joy upon her face, the first rays of sunlight glinting upon the golden crown of flowers atop Aurora’s head.
