(One Piece) Issued
Title: Issued
Fandom: One Piece
Pairing: Zoro/Sanji
Rating: R
Words: 398
Notes: For
100moods, prompt "surprised".
Summary: Predictably unpredictable.
Zoro doesn’t pretend to understand Sanji. For a start, that would imply that Sanji was someone important enough for Zoro to actually try to work out, which isn’t the case, and Zoro frequently makes sure everyone knows that isn’t the case. Not that he cares what everyone thinks, or anything like that.
Secondly, Sanji has to be one of the most complicated and contrary bastards Zoro’s ever had the displeasure of meeting, and if Zoro cared enough to try and figure out the inner workings of Sanji’s brain, which he doesn’t, he’d probably just end up with a headache.
For example, Zoro has no idea why Sanji doesn’t just wait until later, if he’s that worried about being late serving dinner. Not that Zoro’s really complaining, as Sanji irritably yanks off his tie and drapes it neatly across a chair. Zoro may not care about figuring Sanji out, but his body is definitely interested in each sliver of flesh revealed as Sanji makes quick work of the buttons of his shirt.
Sanji’s snapped command that Zoro should just hurry up and get naked already isn’t really appreciated, but Zoro settles for rolling his eyes as he tugs his t-shirt over his head. After all, starting an argument would probably just lead to Sanji deciding that he really will wait until later, and stomping back to his kitchen. Not that Zoro can predict his actions or anything, because Zoro doesn’t understand Sanji, and doesn’t care enough to try.
Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, not understanding Sanji means that Zoro can still be surprised by him. Like, for instance, that impatient little noise Sanji makes as he mutters about Zoro taking too long, right before he drops to his knees in front of Zoro, dragging his trousers down with one efficient movement and promptly making Zoro’s eyes roll up into his head.
So, yeah, Zoro doesn’t understand Sanji, and doesn’t care to. Why bother when unpredictability can make his toes curl inside his boots, when he doesn’t know if Sanji will hum around him or turn his head to bite Zoro’s hand when Zoro’s fingers settle in his hair.
It’s an adventure, really, a very different one to that which Luffy is so excitedly leading them on, and there isn’t much that can surprise Zoro, not anymore, but it’s a weird kind of comfort to know that Sanji always can.
